Ballet provides a base technique for all other styles of dance. This class consists of barre exercises, center work, and combinations that move us across the room. Students will learn ballet technique and vocabulary, as well as ballet performance.
Acro for Dancers
Acro for dancers begins with basic tumbling skills and advances through more complex acrobatic movements. There is a strong focus on blending acrobatics with dance movements in a way that allows the dancers to transition smoothly from tricks to dance in their choreography.
Modern/contemporary class utilizes Graham-based techniques to explore a full range of movement possibilities. Classes begin with work on the floor to build the dancers' foundation in their technique from the ground up. Students will also work at the barre, across the floor, and in center on movements that push the students technique, creativity, and ability to relate to the music as well as the other dancers.
Our Hip Hop class begins with conditioning/stretching that improves our ability to execute hip hop style dance moves. This class focuses on memorizing and performing combinations to kid- appropriate, hip hop style music.
Tap class explores dance through the use of rhythm and sound. Dancers will begin with strengthening exercises and fundamental tap techniques that will allow them to move from basic to complex rhythms and steps. Students will explore different styles of tap from Braodway to Jazz to Hip-hop.
Jazz class will focus on learning proper jazz technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing their ability to work with complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Hip-hop and Contemporary to help develop a well- rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations.
Creative Movement is a 45 minute class that exposes pre-k children to basic steps from various styles of dance while working on movements that develop a child's coordination/motor skills, strength, balance, and overall body control. Children will also develop their creativity as they improvise movements that express various ideas and themes used in class.
Musical Theater Dance
Musical Theatre Dance allow students to explore the various dance styles used in Broadway shows and movie musicals. Students work on performance skills such as storytelling through dance and connecting with the audience while also working on technique, and learning how to work together in different roles as a group. This class includes a jazz style warm-up and stretch, some acting and optional singing, theater exercises, and learning choreography to songs from various musicals from Broadway and the movies.
